The Holy See Press Office (Sala Stampa) announced this Wednesday, in its daily bulletin, that Pope Leo XIV will make an apostolic journey to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from 6 to 17 November 2026. The Pontiff has accepted the invitation of the heads of state and the ecclesiastical authorities of the three countries, on a visit that will take him to some of the main cities in each nation.
During his stay in Uruguay, from 6 to 8 November, he will visit Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida. He will then travel to Argentina, where he will remain from 8 to 11 November with stops in Buenos Aires, Córdoba and the shrine of Our Lady of Luján. Finally, from 11 to 17 November, he will undertake the longest stage of the journey in Peru, visiting Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa.
The Holy See has reported that the detailed programme of the apostolic journey will be published in due course.
A visit to countries with a strong presence of the Augustinian Recollects
The Holy Father’s journey will have special significance for the Augustinian Recollect family, since Argentina and Peru are two of the countries where the Order of Augustinian Recollects has a historic and especially fruitful presence.
In Argentina, the Augustinian Recollects carry out an intense evangelising work through parishes, educational centres, religious communities and various pastoral and social initiatives. Their presence extends across several dioceses, where they have accompanied the life of the Church for decades.
Peru is also one of the main settings of the Recollect mission. The Order is present in different regions of the country through parishes, schools, social projects and religious communities, and also maintains a firm commitment to formation, human development and care for the most vulnerable populations. The visit to cities such as Lima, Chiclayo and Pucallpa thus takes on special significance for the Recollect communities who live and work in the country.
A journey of great importance for the Church in Latin America
This will be one of the most significant international journeys of Leo XIV’s pontificate and will strengthen the ties of the Holy See with three countries of deep Catholic tradition. The visit will allow the Pontiff to meet with ecclesial communities, civil authorities and thousands of faithful who will take part in the planned celebrations and gatherings.
The publication of the official programme will make it possible in the coming weeks to learn about the liturgical events, pastoral meetings and institutional visits that will mark this apostolic journey through South America.
