A new school year has begun in Brazil, where the school calendar follows the natural year, and with it the Hope Centers of the Augustinian Recollects in the Amazon have also restarted their activities.

These are day centers that offer free access to various workshops and semi-professional training, a snack, healthy leisure activities, and values education to children and adolescents who wish to participate, during the hours when they are not in formal school, which they are required to attend in order to take part in the activities of this Center.

The beginning of each course involves the preliminary activities of preparing the team of monitors and care staff, and meetings with the parents, guardians or those responsible for the minors, where they are informed of the need to stay in contact with the Center to monitor the situation of each minor, collaborate in the education and solve any problems that may arise throughout the year.

In addition, the center’s regulations are presented, along with guidelines on how to best take advantage of all the possibilities it offers: workshops, schedules, academic support, sports, healthy leisure activities, talks…

At the Hope Centers, the active participation of beneficiaries and their families is encouraged, as the goal is a holistic education. These meetings with parents and guardians are held monthly, and the management team also regularly visits homes to gain a better understanding of each beneficiary’s environment and situation.
