The work to renew the Order’s Constitution continues

During the meeting of the General Council with the priors provincial last December it was suggested to accept new contributions to adapt the juridical framework of the Order. After studying the proposals received from religious and communities from all over the world, finishing touches were given to the constitutional text prepared by the technical commission.

On August 18 – 21 the commission for the study and revision of the Constitutions held a new work session in San Millán de la Cogolla (La Rioja, Spain). This time the group was smaller so as to facilitate the job and, most of all, because the contributions received in the last months have been less than those under study in the previous meeting held in Monachil (Granada, Spain).

For four full days, working seven hours a day, the Fathers Javier Ruiz, Imanol Larrínaga and Bernardo Cerda gave the finishing touches to the Constitutions of the Order and the identity of the Augustinian Recollects.

Contributions

The suggestions to adapt and revise the actual juridical framework of the Order come from different countries, from religious and communities and from different work groups of the Order and of its provinces.

Eight proposals were studied in this last session. Three of them were sent by individual religious, two came from the Order’s Institute of Spirituality and History and the last three were suggested by the Province of Candelaria, specifically on the part of its secretariat of vocations and formation, its communities and its ministerial and educational apostolate.

The final goal is to enrich the Order’s constitutional text so as to encourage and to give greater clarity to Augustinian Recollect identity within the mystery of the Church and for her service.

Once the commission’s work is done, the General Council will again review it and submit it to the next General Chapter of the Order for the approval by the elected delegates.
