The year 2026 will be marked by the mission and by the rhythm of the liturgical calendar. Learn about the movable feasts of the year, their theological meaning, and the specific calendar of the Augustinian Recollects.

The Church journeys through the liturgical year announcing Easter

The liturgical calendar of the Church is not a mere succession of dates. It is a true spiritual itinerary that allows the faithful to journey, throughout the year, through the mystery of Christ. Some celebrations have a fixed date; others, however, vary each year because they depend directly on the Easter of the Lord. These are the so-called movable feasts, deeply united to the heart of the liturgical year.

The year 2026 will be for the Church—and in a particular way for the Augustinian-Recollect family—a year marked by mission. In this context, the announcement of the movable feasts is not only practical information, but an invitation to live time as grace, as sending, and as a renewed opportunity to announce the Gospel.

The liturgical announcement of the movable feasts

According to an ancient and significant liturgical tradition, on the solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, January 6, the Church solemnly proclaims the main dates of the Christian year. After the singing of the Gospel, a deacon or other minister, from the ambo, announces to the people of God the paschal rhythm that will mark the coming months.

This is the Announcement of the Movable Feasts of the Year 2026:

Dear brothers and sisters:

The glory of the Lord has been manifested and will continue to be manifested among us, until the day of his glorious return.

In the succession of the various feasts and solemnities of the time, we remember and live the mysteries of salvation. The center of the entire liturgical year is the Paschal Triduum of the crucified, buried, and risen Lord, which this year will culminate on the holy night of Easter that, with joy, we will celebrate on April 5.

Every Sunday, the weekly Easter, the holy Church will make present this same event, in which Christ has conquered sin and death.

From Easter flow, as from its source, all the other holy days:

Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, which we will celebrate on February 18.
– The Ascension of the Lord, which this year will be on May 17.
Pentecost Sunday, which we will celebrate on May 24.
– The first Sunday of Advent, which we will celebrate on November 29.

Also in the feasts of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of the apostles, of the saints, and in the commemoration of all the faithful departed, the Church, a pilgrim on earth, proclaims the Easter of her Lord.

To Him, the glorious Christ, who is, who was, and who is to come, the Lord of time and history, honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

A liturgical year that is born of Easter

Easter is not just another date: it is the center of the Christian year. From it spring Lent as a time of conversion, the Ascension as a promise of fullness, Pentecost as a missionary sending, and Advent as hopeful waiting.

To celebrate the movable feasts is to learn to live time from Christ, recognizing that each stage of the liturgical year forms, sends, and renews the Church as a community of missionary disciples.

2026: a year marked by mission

In the context of the Missionary Year, these celebrations acquire a special resonance. Pentecost reminds us that the Church does not live for itself, but exists to evangelize. Each liturgical feast thus becomes a call to go out, to announce, and to witness to the faith wherever the Lord sends us.

When presenting the calendar of activities for 2026, the Prior General of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, Friar Miguel Ángel Hernández Domínguez, invites us to live this time “in a missionary key: with creativity, with a spirit of communion, and with inner availability,” emphasizing that this year is an opportunity to renew community life, prayer, and closeness to the people of God.

Calendar of the Order of Augustinian Recollects 2026

In harmony with the liturgical calendar of the Church, the Order of Augustinian Recollects will develop throughout 2026 an intense program of meetings, renewal visits, provincial chapters, and spaces for ongoing formation, coordinated from the General Curia.

Among the most significant milestones of the year are:

  • The international meetings of ongoing formation in Latin America.

  • The renewal visits to religious communities, parishes, schools, and apostolic works in Europe and America.

  • The celebration of various Provincial Chapters, key moments of discernment and governance.

  • Youth, educational, and pastoral encounters that express the missionary dynamism of the Order.

This entire calendar—officially presented by the General Curia—is framed in the desire to strengthen the Augustinian-Recollect identity, revitalize spiritual life, and renew the joy of being sent.

Living time as grace

The liturgical year does not simply pass: it is given to us. Each feast, each time, and each celebration is an opportunity to grow in faith and rekindle the mission. May the year 2026, marked by Easter and by the missionary sending, help us to live with spiritual depth, ecclesial sense, and creative fidelity to the charism received, following the example of Saint Augustine and at the service of the Church.
