The Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Augustinian Recollects in Pozos de Santa Ana (San José, Costa Rica) wanted to maintain a spirit of solidarity this past Christmas season. Therefore, they organized a Christmas Eve Mission Campaign so that vulnerable families could celebrate Christmas Eve with greater joy and feel the warmth of their neighbors’ support.
To this end, the Social Ministry organized a collection of monetary donations to finance the purchase of food for a Christmas basket worth 40,000 colones (around 70 euros). In addition, families who wished could put together a basket themselves to be given to another family.
The Christmas baskets would later be distributed among vulnerable families within the parish and the Sarapiquí region, where they would be delivered by the Parish of Saint Augustine in Puerto Viejo, also run by the Augustinian Recollects. This is an area with particular social needs.
112 Christmas baskets were distributed, 48 of which were delivered to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, and the remaining 64 went to local families in Pozos de Santa Ana, previously selected by the Social Ministry. Many of the boxes also contained toys for children, in addition to the food. Individuals and businesses joined in this charitable effort.
The Social Ministry of Pozos de Santa Ana ended 2025 with heartfelt gratitude to the parish community, as throughout the year many other important donations were obtained, especially for those who were able to benefit from them: four wheelchairs, twenty school backpacks, 20 raincoats and 31 pairs of shoes for schoolchildren…
Even at the end of the year there was a surplus of 738,495 colones (1,275 euros) which was expected to be used to complete more basic food baskets and improve some scholarships for students in vulnerable situations.
