On Sunday, December 28, the Feast of the Holy Family, the Parish of St. Augustine in Union City (NJ), dressed up to receive the visit of the Pilgrim Mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe, who will be present in the Parish throughout the month of January.
The day before, amidst a heavy snowfall, a truck arrived from Manhattan with all the necessary elements to assemble the monument that accompanies the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a space of devotion that invites community prayer.
Eleven volunteers from the parish, most of Mexican origin and culture, worked for five hours, directed by the team that transports the Virgin and her veneration monument. At the 9:30 a.m. Mass, Auxiliary Bishop Pedro Bismarck Chao of Newark, in charge of Hudson County, where Union City is located, presided and blessed the image.
From that moment on and throughout the month of January, the Parish of Saint Augustine will hold various events in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe with the aim of preparing the hearts of the faithful for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the apparitions on Tepeyac Hill.
Thus, on weekdays there will be organized events at 1pm, 3pm and 4:30pm until February 1st, when the visit will conclude with a Eucharist presided over by the Archbishop of Newark, Cardinal Joseph Tobin.
