The 2026 Solidarity Race of the Saint Augustine High School of Valladolid in favor of the socio-educational projects of the Augustinian Recollects in the Amazon (Brazil) began at 9:15, with a joint reflection and prayer.
The twinning programs between students at the school were a highlight. Students from different grade levels came together, shared time, and listened to and helped each other. Older students visited the younger students’ classrooms, which were organized by grade and letter.
Together, through a story and a video, they reflected on the reality of so many children and adolescents from other parts of the world, personified in the daily reality of the Hope Centers of Labrea, Tapaua and Pauini, in Amazon (Brazil).
This socio-educational project welcomes teenagers at risk of exclusion during the time they are not in formal school, offering them nutritional supplements, academic support, semi-professional training, music and computer skills, sports and healthy leisure activities.
The members of the Valladolid educational community wanted to send a message: they were going to run for those people their age, but who live in such different circumstances, with the aim of helping.
Later on, the races took place, adapted to each educational stage, at different times and in a staggered fashion. Everyone was clearly very enthusiastic, because the important thing wasn’t the running itself, but rather becoming aware that building a fairer world is everyone’s responsibility, each and every one of us, according to our own abilities and possibilities.
The families generously contributed an amount to each runner based on the distance covered, while the rest of the educational community collaborated in the organization to ensure the solidarity day was a success.
An amount of 11,409 euros was raised, which will be used entirely for the operation of the three Esperanza Centers in Brazil.
