At seven o’clock on Saturday, April 18, the second edition of the Augustine Fest festival began at the Boys’ Town of the Augustinian Recollects in Costa Rica, which this year featured the collaboration and live participation of the group Son de Tikizia.
This is a group of renowned Costa Rican musicians led by Walter Flores and Alfredo Poveda. Their main styles are Afro-Caribbean music, Latin jazz, and salsa from the 70s and 80s. Their live performances invite the audience to dance non-stop.
They have taken their sound all over the world: the United States, Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy … And they have played alongside Rubén Blades, Cheo Feliciano, Jimmy Bosch and Ralph Irizarry, the Costa Rica Philharmonic Orchestra, La Sonora Ponceña, and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.
All proceeds from this second edition of Augustine Fest will be dedicated to improving the weight room at the Boys’ Town, which is increasingly used by beneficiaries within the sports and health care programs. Many collaborators offered their effort, time, and energy to make it happen.
That same day, in the morning, the Boys’ Town joyfully celebrated the Baptisms and First Communions of a good number of beneficiaries who freely wished to access the sacraments and prepared themselves beforehand for it.
On April 22nd, there was an opportunity to promote Chess, as the Boys’ Town hosted the Interregional Final of this game that stimulates intelligence, strategy and patience.
Book Day was celebrated with the aim of promoting reading. A whole series of activities were offered, encompassing creativity, learning, and encouraging a passion for reading.
Thus, there was a hat contest and a mural contest, and the participants also presented their own stories, poems, and comic strips. Talent, dedication, and inspiration were everywhere. The Boys’ Town is committed to literature, which allows children to learn and enjoy themselves, stimulates critical thinking, and offers a learning experience that is not at odds with fun.
