About fifty members of the thirteen Augustinian-Recollect Secular Fraternities in Mexico have met near Cuernavaca, at the House of Recollection of Ahuatepec (Morelos, Mexico) on April 25 and 26 to celebrate the General Assembly of the Fraternities of the country.

The Assembly began with a votive Mass of the Holy Spirit and an opening prayer led by the Secular Fraternity of Saint Magdalene of Nagasaki (Querétaro). Following this, the national president, Lourdes Laraque, presented her triennial report, an evaluation of all that had occurred during her three-year term.

Reflection, dialogue, and group work followed with the aim of reaching a consensus on priority objectives and lines of action for the new three-year period 2026-2029. Four main areas of work were established: formation, accompaniment, apostolate, and vocational culture.

Sunday, April 26, began with morning prayer led by the Secular Fraternity of the St. Augustine Postulancy of Mexico City. Following this, in a joint session, the priorities established the previous day were presented and unanimously approved.

After thanking the outgoing president and council for their work during the three-year term, the election of the new president and council of the Secular Fraternity in Mexico took place. The vote scrutineers were appointed, specifically the youngest and oldest delegates present. The free and secret ballot then proceeded.

The new management team of the Secular Fraternity in Mexico will ensure the achievement of the objectives decided by consensus through the proposed lines of action. These are:

  • President: Sylvia Chávez (Querétaro);
  • First Councilor and Head of Training: Consuelo López (Tecamachalco);
  • Second Councilor and Secretary: Filogonio Hernández (Macuxtepetla);
  • Third Councilor and Treasurer: Sofía del Bosque (Santa Mónica, CDMX);
  • Fourth Councilor: Gabriela López (Chihuahua).

The spiritual assistant of the Secular Fraternity in Mexico, the Augustinian Recollect Sergio Sánchez, confirmed the positions and the new president addressed everyone with words of gratitude and programmatic plans for the new three-year term.

With a prayer to Our Lady of Consolation, all members of the Fraternity, each of the Fraternities, and the new Council were entrusted to her. The Assembly concluded with a Eucharist, thanksgiving, and a fraternal banquet of faith.
