The educational communities of the Saint Agustine High School in Valladolid, Saint Agustine School in Chiclana de la Frontera (CƔdiz) and Romareda High School in Saragossa, all of them in Spain and belonging to the Augustinian Recollects, have a long relationship of affection, friendship, commitment, knowledge and support with the mission areas and the frontier ministries of the Augustinian Recollect Family.
In addition to material support, awareness campaigns and fundraising, and spaces for learning about the social reality and childhood in places like Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Sierra Leone or China, missionary spirituality has traditionally been added, with prayer or listening to vocational testimonies of missionaries and volunteers in mission places and social ministries.
Throughout the school year, activities promoting missionary spirit and solidarity are held. These include events such as World Mission Sunday (DOMUND), the Amazon Hope Centers Campaigns (youth helping youth), awareness-raising through ARCORES, the Augustinian Recollect International Solidarity Network, and the promotion of volunteering.
The Augustinian Recollect Youth (ARY-JAR) also include in their formation program ongoing contact with missions, missionaries, volunteer work, and support campaigns. Young Augustinian Recollects are invited to join in a constant and unwavering commitment to solidarity, empathy, and building a better world for all. This youth movement has in mission a unique, distinctive and defining characteristic.
The Recollect educational community is always missionary and committed, and each age group has its own way of learning solidarity and feeling like missionaries in a world in need of kind words, of proclaiming good news, the good news of Jesus.
For this reason, mission also has a significant place in the pastoral areas (First Communion catechesis, Confirmation catechesis, and Youth for Recollects) of all three schools, and in the case of Chiclana and Saragossa, this is further enhanced with the collaboration of nearby Recollect parishes.
We also frequently collaborate with local social organizations, hosting aid campaigns for institutions that support the elderly, vulnerable people, migrants, the disadvantaged, health centers, and centers for people with special needs in Valladolid, Saragossa, and Chiclana. Because our mission doesn’t just look to distant places, but also to all those who need a word of peace, welcome, understanding, and support.
