The Augustinian Recollect Spirituality Center (CEAR) of Costa Rica began its scheduled activities in August, which will continue until the end of 2026. The program seeks to strengthen the integral formation of individuals, using spirituality, emotional well-being, theological knowledge, and the communal celebration of faith.
CEAR Costa Rica has joined the “A Heart for Venezuela” campaign of the Augustinian Recollect International Solidarity Network ARCORES. Several activities are collecting donations for those affected by the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24th. Donations can be made to participants via bank accounts in colones, dollars, euros, and bolivars.
The program opened on August 3rd with the conference “Neurobiology of Fear,” featuring participants from CEAR Costa Rica and members of the Augustinian Recollect Family in Venezuela. The aim was to understand how fear affects the brain and decision-making processes, and thus be able to mitigate its negative consequences.
On August 4, the conference entitled “Peace be with you” took place, led by the Augustinian Recollect Bishop Ángel San Casimiro, focusing on synodality as an essential aspect of ecclesial life in recent times.
“Taming the Madman in the Attic” took place on Thursday, August 6th. Its objective is to understand the inner states from which we think, feel, decide, and act. It is inspired by the spirituality of Saint Augustine, human experience, and Christian wisdom. The expected outcome is self-knowledge through introspection and discernment, recognizing internal patterns and developing tools for greater clarity, balance, and awareness of life. There are seven weekly sessions, on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. (Costa Rica time). The entire donation goes to the aid program for Venezuela.
“Embroidering Feelings” resumed, running from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning. During the embroidery practice, participants tell stories, express emotions, and strengthen their sense of community.
On Monday, August 10th, at seven in the evening, the weekly ten-session workshop “As Mary Did” begins, a space for reflection and spiritual growth inspired by Mary’s attitudes: listening, trust, surrender, affirmation even in uncertainty…
“Land of Humans” begins on August 11th, reviewing the essential aspects for achieving a fulfilling life and preventing imbalance. Each session will take place at 7:00 PM.
That same day and at that same time, the workshop “Lord, Save Me” begins, consisting of ten sessions. It promotes a humble spirituality for praying in the face of adversity.
On August 22nd, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the conference “Personal Finances” will take place. It offers practical tools for organizing income, managing expenses, and making informed decisions regarding personal and family resources. These skills are crucial for making decisions, setting priorities, and learning habits that lead to financial peace. Understanding, organizing, and making better decisions with what you have prevents anxiety and brings a sense of peace and security to your life.
Finally, on August 29th and September 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with refreshments included, the workshop “Hacking the Unconscious” will take place. It will allow participants to get to know themselves better and become less dependent on prejudices, temperaments, or uncontrolled attitudes—something important for achieving happiness.
