129th Provincial Chapter: a unique moment and space for opinion and participation

The success of a Provincial Chapter is sought from the Spirit on its opening day, but it has an important human component based on the participation of everyone, religious and lay, so that the decision-making process is truly complete.
Chapter of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine 2022. Augustinian Recollects.

The 129th Chapter of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino of the Order of Augustinian Recollects will begin on May 18, 2026 in Marcilla (Navarra, Spain); and three months before its start, on February 18, the deadline for submitting suggestions and proposals ends.

The process of discernment and decision-making that a Provincial Chapter entails concerns the entire Augustinian Recollect Family within that Province. Once the situation report has been presented as the basis for discussion, the entire Province is called to participate with its opinions, suggestions, proposals, and ideas.

A deadline has been set for this purpose, which is already open and will end in just under a month, on February 18, 2026. Submissions received up to that date will form part of the Chapter’s list of topics and will be included in the working notebooks of the chapter members, who must be familiar with and evaluate them in order to carry out their work diligently.

Although the most visible part of the Provincial Chapter is on the days when the chapter members who attend by office or by having been appointed as delegates gather, the chapter process is much broader and includes religious and lay people.

For discernment to be as complete as possible, it requires the fulfillment of an essential characteristic of Augustinian spirituality: fraternal community. We all resolve the most important issues in the life of the Province better if we walk together, reflect together, propose together, and discern together.

To assume co-responsibility for the life and mission of the Province, it is necessary to discern together and plan together the future of the parishes, schools, houses of formation, residences for the care of religious in situations of dependency, service bodies (secretariats, teams, commissions)…

Those especially invited to participate are members of the Secular Fraternities, the ARY Youth groups, the Association of Mothers of Saint Monica … And also parish pastoral agents, teachers, collaborators and workers…

Saint Augustine reminds us that “no one walks alone toward the truth” and that it is in sincere dialogue and shared inquiry that differences are clarified and consensus is reached. “In necessary things, unity; in doubtful things, liberty; in all things, charity”: this Augustinian maxim is applicable to the chapter process, which has the complex task of evaluating and proposing priority objectives for the coming years.

And since “love of truth is lived in communion,” there is still time to participate and contribute reflections, proposals, insights, and specific requests so that the outcome of the Chapter may truly be that desired by the Holy Spirit. If you have not yet participated, whether you are religious or lay, you can do so through this questionnaire or this email address.
