Once again, the solidarity of individuals and institutions has yielded abundant and generous results that will allow the beneficiaries and teenagers of the Saint Monica Home of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil) to develop their lives in an environment of peace and security and create the foundations of a dignified future, after having gone through terrible experiences of abuse, exploitation, abandonment or violation of their rights.
On Friday, March 27, the auditorium of the Professional Music Conservatory of Getafe (Madrid, Spain), which was provided free of charge for this purpose, was practically full, although the date being so close to Holy Week meant that many collaborators, benefactors and friends of HelpFortaleza could not attend because they were away from their usual homes.
This year’s main attraction was the hilarious and award-winning play La farsa de Siglo de Oro (The Golden Age Farce), by the Timaginas Teatro company. Its plot revolves around well-known figures, writers, and artists from the Spanish Golden Age, such as Quevedo, Góngora, Lope de Vega, and Velázquez, as well as the personalities depicted in Velázquez’s painting “Las Meninas”.
More than 300 people attended, applauded enthusiastically, and laughed nonstop. But above all, thanks to their donations and those of everyone who participated through the “Zero Row” initiative, the Saint Monica Home will have greater financial security to fund its activities, essentially meeting all the needs (food, clothing, education, therapies) of its beneficiaries, sent there by the competent authorities in matters of Childhood and Adolescence to remove them from their abusive and aggressive environments.
We are grateful for the generous charitable performance by Timaginas Teatro, who also presented a play that is part of their current theatrical repertoire. Thanks are also due to the management of the Getafe Professional Music Conservatory for providing the venue and to the NGO Image in Action for the photographic coverage.
