Safe Environments

The Order of Augustinian Recollects promotes safe environments with training in prevention and an Ethical Channel that protects minors and vulnerable adults, fostering a culture of care, good treatment, and responsibility.

The Order of Augustinian Recollects is firmly committed to creating safe environments in all its communities and apostolic works. Since 2014, we have developed a comprehensive system of prevention, protection, and training that today reaches schools, parishes, social projects, and communities in Europe, America, Africa, and Asia.

This effort was born proactively, not as a response to complaints, but as a clear commitment to improving coexistence, preventing violence, and caring for people, especially minors and those in vulnerable situations. Over time, this local initiative evolved into an intercontinental network coordinated by the Safe Environment Commission, composed of specialists from different countries and disciplines.

Our commitment includes:

Systematic prevention

Systematic prevention through protocols, training, and materials adapted to each cultural context.

Attention and support

Attention and support in cases that may arise.

Continuous training

Continuous training of religious, lay people, and pastoral agents.

Constant evaluation

Constant evaluation of the system to guarantee its effectiveness and permanent improvement.

With this work, we seek to ensure that our communities are places where all people—especially the most vulnerable—can develop with dignity, respect, and protection. The objective is clear: to promote a culture of care, responsibility, and transparency that forms an essential part of our evangelizing mission.

As an essential part of our commitment to creating safe environments, the Order of Augustinian Recollects has an Ethical Channel, a protected and confidential space at the service of all people who are part of our communities and apostolic works. Through this means, possible irregularities, behaviors contrary to our Ethical Code, or situations that may put the integrity of minors, vulnerable adults, or other members of the community at risk can be communicated simply and safely.

The Ethical Channel ensures confidentiality, protection of the informant, and independence in the management of each communication, in full coherence with current regulations and with the principles contained in our Safe Environments Policy.

Currently, the Safe Environment Commission of the Order is composed of the following members:

  • D. Carmen Montejo (Spain)
  • Fray Gustavo Camarena, OAR (Mexico)
  • Fray Daniel Medina, OAR (Argentina)
  • P. Daniel Portillo (Mexico)
