FAE Social organizes a meeting with María Luz Canaquiri and Fr. Jaazeal Jakosalem, OAR, to discuss ecology, corporate responsibility, and the defense of human rights.

Madrid, October 30, 2025. Within the framework of the path towards the next Climate Summit (COP30) to be held in Brazil, the FAE Social organization is convening a meeting with media outlets next Wednesday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m., at the ARCORES Internacional headquarters (C/ Julián Besteiro 33, Madrid).

This meeting will bring together prophetic voices from the Church, indigenous peoples, and civil society to raise awareness about the critical situation of environmental defenders and the role that Europe must assume to protect life and the common home.

Speakers:

  • María Luz Canaquiri, Kukama leader and Goldman Prize 2024 winner, known for her defense of the Marañón River and her people against extractivism.
  • Jaazeal Jakosalem, OAR, General Councilor of the Augustinian Recollects and President of ARCORES International, promoter of the Eco-Agustinian Alliance.
  • Marta Isabel González, journalist and researcher working in Political Advocacy and Alliances at Manos Unidas and Communication reference of the Enlázate por la Justicia alliance, representing the Platform for Companies (PER), a coalition that brings together more than 530 entities, including Amnesty International, Oxfam Intermón, Greenpeace, ActionAid, the Observatory of Corporate Social Responsibility, and Enlazate por la Justicia. The platform promotes ambitious legislation that obliges European companies to respect human rights and the environment in all their activities and in all their value chains.

The meeting will be an opportunity to gather direct testimonies, present the document “The Churches of the Global South before COP30” and make visible the position of the Spanish Augustinian Federation regarding climate justice and corporate responsibility.
