More than 6,000 people from the different Augustinian branches will participate in the events planned during the Holy Father’s apostolic visit
The Holy See officially announced this Wednesday the program for Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey to Spain, which will take place from June 6 to 12, 2026. The Holy Father will visit Madrid, Barcelona, Montserrat, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in a journey of marked pastoral, social, and ecclesial character, which will include meetings with young people, migrants, bishops, religious, pastoral agents, and representatives from the world of culture and society.
The visit will also hold special significance for the entire Augustinian family. The different orders and congregations linked to the charism of Saint Augustine will participate united in the events organized on the occasion of the Pope’s presence in Spain. Present will be the Order of Saint Augustine, the Augustinian Recollects, the Assumptionist Augustinians, the Augustinian Sisters, the Augustinian Recollect Sisters, the Comendadoras of Santiago, the Augustinian Missionaries, the Augustinian Recollect Missionaries, and the Augustinians of the Amparo.
More than 6,000 people—including children and young people, religious men and women, families, teachers, pastoral agents, and members of parishes, schools, and apostolates—will participate in the various events planned during those days.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the private meeting that the Holy Father will hold with members of the Order of Saint Augustine on Sunday, June 7, at the Apostolic Nunciature in Madrid, included in the official schedule published by the Press Office of the Holy See.
Augustinian schools united in prayer
In the days prior to the Pope’s arrival, Augustinian schools throughout Spain will also experience various acts of spiritual preparation. On Thursday, June 4, at 12:00, students and teachers have been invited to go out to the school courtyards to participate in a simultaneous act of welcome to the Holy Father.
During that moment, students will display murals and posters prepared for the occasion and will sing different musical compositions and messages of affection addressed to Pope Leo XIV, in an initiative that seeks to express the communion of the Augustinian family with the successor of Peter.
Prayer vigil in Madrid
On the eve of the great meetings with young people, Friday, June 5, the Church of the Comendadoras of Santiago in Madrid will host, at 8:00 PM, a prayer vigil organized by the Augustinian family.
Young people from different parts of Spain will participate to experience this ecclesial event. The gathering aims to become a space for prayer, encounter, and spiritual preparation before the great vigil presided over by the Holy Father at Plaza de Lima.
Meeting and sending forth of young people at Colegio San Agustín
Likewise, on Saturday, June 6, starting at 12:30, Colegio San Agustín in Madrid will gather hundreds of young people for a morning of fellowship and sending-forth celebration.
From there they will depart together toward the vigil with young people presided over by Pope Leo XIV at Plaza de Lima, one of the central events of the first day of the apostolic journey. According to the official program, the meeting will begin at 8:30 PM and will include an address by the Holy Father.
During his stay in Spain, Leo XIV will also celebrate Mass at Plaza de Cibeles, meetings with bishops, authorities, and pastoral agents, as well as various celebrations in Barcelona, Montserrat, and the Canary Islands, in an itinerary that emphasizes evangelization, the culture of encounter, and attention to the peripheries.
