The reason for the international recognition of Saint Rita is that she highlights the value of love and forgiveness. These are two attitudes that completely change the trajectory of a life and its circumstances, no matter how harsh they may be: to love and to forgive.
If we want the world to change, we must exercise those two powers that God places in our hands: forgiving and loving. In this way, we imitate God the Father, who forgives and loves, and never tires of waiting for us to be attentive to those two constant movements of His heart.
We should ask Saint Rita to obtain for us the grace of repentance and forgiveness, so that we may enjoy that forgiveness offered freely by God.
Strength
Saint Rita is an example of strength and perseverance, doing good and trusting in God’s love despite life’s contradictions, as she drew near to the crucified God and carried her own cross.
Saint Rita is asked to obtain the desired grace, especially that strength to continue doing good to everyone, without ever becoming discouraged in the face of difficulties.
Communion
Saint Rita is an example of communion. She understood clearly that we are all immersed in the heart of God, even sinners, as Jesus says in the Gospel with the parable of the prodigal son. And so she lived in the joy of surrendering everything to Jesus.
Saint Rita is asked to intercede so that we may be true Christian disciples and agents of peace, communion, and reconciliation between enemies and those who are in conflict.
Peace
Rita’s father was a justice of the peace in the village. From him, she learned to bring peace between feuding families. That is what she did when her husband was killed: she brought peace between her own family and the family of the murderers.
Saint Rita is asked to intercede to request peace for the world, which is so much in need today.
Miracles
Many miracles are attributed to Saint Rita, including having obtained roses and figs in winter. Similarly, in our own environment, no matter how difficult it may seem or how impossible we believe the fulfillment of our request to be, in the “winter roses” we find an incentive to believe in her intercession.
She makes roses appear where there are only thorns; that is to say, where there are disagreements, a true encounter can emerge, and where there is rejection, understanding can be born.
That is why she is the intercessor of impossible causes.
