Madrid, April 23, 2026 — The Order of Saint Augustine (OSA) and the Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) have presented the audiobook of Saint Augustine’s Confessions, a joint initiative of the Augustinian Family, launched on World Book Day and on the eve of the anniversary of the conversion of the saint of Hippo, April 24.
The work, available on digital platforms, constitutes the first complete edition in Spanish in audio format of this classic of Christian literature. Beyond its cultural dimension, the project is born with a marked ecclesial and charitable character: all generated profits will be destined to the Apostolic Almonry, to support the charitable works of Pope Leo XIV.
A project of communion and shared mission
The presentation of the audiobook is part of a significant moment for the Augustinian Family, which has sought to highlight the value of this initiative as a concrete expression of unity. In their joint letter, the Priors General of both orders emphasize that this work is “an eloquent sign of communion,” the fruit of a true synodal path in which religious men, women, and lay people participate.
The text of Saint Augustine, they recall, “was not written solely to be read, but to be prayed, heard, and embraced,” which finds a particularly suitable form of transmission in the audiobook format.
In this sense, the project is not just a technical adaptation, but a living update of the Augustinian tradition: the voice of the saint resonates again today amidst daily life, inviting an inner journey of searching for truth and encountering God.
The press conference: a new way of working together
During the press conference, Friar Alfonso J. Dávila, OAR, Director of Communication for the Order of Augustinian Recollects and executive production manager, emphasized the value of the collaborative work that made the project possible, particularly highlighting the cooperation between the different branches of the Augustinian Family.
For her part, Amparo Latre, Director of Communication for the Order of Saint Augustine in Spain, noted that this initiative represents “a new way of working for religious families,” based on real cooperation and the sharing of resources and charisms.
The audiobook producer, Blanca Serrano, expressed her gratitude for the experience during the process: “The Augustinian family read me their story, and I feel profoundly grateful,” she affirmed, highlighting the human and spiritual dimension of the project.
The event concluded with Enrique Infante, journalist and voice of the first chapter of the audiobook, who offered a first sound approach to this work that now opens up to new audiences through listening.
A classic work that speaks again to the contemporary heart
Saint Augustine’s Confessions, written between 397 and 400 AD, constitute the first great spiritual autobiography in Western literature and one of the pinnacles of Christian thought. Its thirteen-book structure traces the author’s life from childhood to his conversion, then rising to reflection on time, memory, and creation.
This audiobook allows for rediscovering the work in its most original dimension: as a prayer addressed to God, which also challenges today’s listener. The initiative thus seeks to facilitate access to this fundamental text for new generations, in a language and format consistent with contemporary culture.
A profoundly Augustinian gesture of charity
One of the most significant features of the project is its charitable purpose. As the Priors General emphasize in their letter, the decision to allocate all profits to the Apostolic Almonry expresses the ecclesial and charitable dimension of the initiative, in coherence with the spirit of Saint Augustine.
In this way, the inner search proposed by the saint does not remain in the personal sphere, but translates into concrete service to the most needy, through the charitable action of the Holy Father.
